A Legacy of Melodious Grace

Born on 17 May 1951 in Jetpur, Gujarat, Padma Bhushan Pankaj Udhas entered the world with music already whispering through his soul. Inspired at the tender age of five by Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar Ji, he went on to transform ghazal into a global and accessible art form.

From his first ghazal album Aahat in 1980 to the immortal success of Chitthi Aayi Hai in 1986, his velvet voice gave ghazal a place in homes, hearts and memories across generations. With over 50 albums and more than 1,000 songs, he carried poetry, melody and emotion beyond elite mehfils and into the soul of the masses.

Honoured with the Padma Shri in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2025 posthumously, he remains a symbol of grace, humility, music and service. Through Khazana – A Festival of Ghazals, PATUT and CPAA, his work supported thalassemia and cancer causes for decades. His music continues to echo as a universal language of hope, healing and humanity.
